How long or short can a domain name be and what are the restrictions?
In General most domain names have a minimum of 2 and a maximum 62 characters. The domain name also includes the extension (.com, .net, .org ect). A domain name may contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) or dashes (-). To be sensible, however, domain names should be much shorter than this if users are ever expected to want to type them. Remember it pays to have a domain name that reflects your on-line website or business. It’s important to keep it short and simple for your customers or visitors to remember.

Domain Names may not begin or end with a dash (-)..
Domain Names may not contain special characters, such as(! @#$%&? ~: _)
Domain Names may not have a dash (-) in the third and/or fourth positions.
